A VERY RARE .50-45 CADET (13.2x32R) RIFLE, MODEL '1867 NAVY CADET ROLLING-BLOCK', issue no. F249,
manufactured in 1868 by Springfield Armory utilising Remington made actions, with 'in the white' (as supplied) round 32 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, rocking 'L' shaped rear-sight (as found on the 1864 Musket), slab-sided receiver (traces of faded colour hardening), rolling breech, central hammer, the left side of receiver struck with a small anchor mark, the right marked 'P' over 'FCW', Remington signature and patent dates to 1866 on top-tang, walnut butt-stock, the iron heel-plate marked on the top tang 'US' and 'F' over '249', full-length walnut fore-end with two iron barrel-bands and loop-ended clearing rod
Provenance: Only 498 of these cadet rifles were set up in total between 1868-9 making it one of the hardest to acquire of all Remington military rolling-blocks.
