WEBLEY & SCOTT, BIRMINGHAM
A SCARCE BOXED .22 BARREL-COCKING AIR-PISTOL, MODEL ''STOVE ENAMELLED' PREMIER', batch no. 592,
circa 1973 and not series letter marked, with blued 6 1/2in. barrel, adjustable rear-sight, stirrup barrel latch, enamelled stepped air-chamber retaining the white paint infill to the model name, five pin trigger unit with flush weight adjuster, chequered brown bakelite grips, appearing very little used, together with a buff card carton with buff label and instruction inside lid
Provenance: The stove enamelled finish was an attempt by Webley to reduce manufacturing costs and had been successfully used by their great Birmingham competitor BSA for a number of years on their air-rifles. When the 'Premier II' air-pistol was launched a couple of years later, stove enamelling was the finish of choice, and these late Premier models as represented here could be termed 'transitional' between the original blued steel models and the later cast alloy 'Premier II' models. Strangely though, the last batch of steel Premiers, the 'F' Series guns, were blued not enamelled.
