manufactured circa 1897 with a blued 8in. barrel, the top-rib signed 'SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS USA', blade fore-sight, adjustable blade rear-sight, break-open blued frame with fluted 1 7/16in. long cylinder, colour-hardened hammer and trigger, chequered hard-rubber grips and plain colour-hardened trigger-guard, no provision for shoulder-stock, much original finish throughout
