A CASED .41 (RIMFIRE) LONDON-RETAILED COLT 'No.3 THUER PATENT' DERRINGER, no visible serial number,
circa 1880, with blued swing-sideways to load 2in. London proved barrel, the top of barrel signed 'COLT', plated frame with blued screws, exposed hammer and spur trigger and smooth walnut birdshead grips, in a probable period stained oak case with rounded edges to the lid, the interior lined in green canvas, the inside of lid bearing a glossy parchment label for 'Colt's Firearms, Pall Mall, London', the tray holding the pistol, provision for six rounds of ammunition (two inert examples remaining) and a ring-handled cleaning rod, hook closure
