A RARE CASED AND ENGRAVED ADAMS 38-BORE PERCUSSION REVOLVER RETAILED BY REILLY, LONDON, serial no. 16503R,
circa 1855, with blued octagonal 7 3/8in. barrel engraved with scrolls at breech, borderlined to the flats and a band at muzzle, the top-strap signed 'REILLY 502 NEW OXFORD STREET LONDON' within a border engraved panel with a further scroll engraved panel, solid borderline and scroll engraved blued frame, plain colour hardened cylinder with engraved band to leading edge and borderlines engraved to rear, double action mechanism, chequered walnut one-piece swept grip with engraved domed iron cap to the swollen pommel, guarded trigger and blued frame-mounted rammer, retaining much of its original finish and faded colour and together with its maker's oak storage case lined and compartmented in blue velvet, Reilly trade label inside lid and complete with a Reilly marked mould, a fine James Dixon bag-shaped flask, cap-tin, oil bottle, loading rod, turn-screw and nipple-key, all almost certainly original to the revolver
