A PAIR OF 40-BORE PERCUSSION TRAVELLING PISTOLS SIGNED I. WILKS, no visible serial numbers
circa 1805 and converted from flint, with browned octagonal 3 7/8in. barrels, the top-flats marked '120 PICKADILLY' (sic), engraved bevel-edged locks with stepped tails, sliding safes behind the hammers, carved and moulded snails, walnut full-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, blued iron furniture and brass mounted mahogany ramrods

Provenance: There is a possibility that these pistols may be spuriously signed. There is no record of any of the J. Wilks (James, John or Joseph) ever having used the latin 'I' in lieu of 'J' or ever trading from a Piccadilly address
