A CASED PAIR OF 14mm PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS SIGNED GASTINNE RENETTE, serial numbered 110,
circa 1850, with 'in the white' octagonal 10 1/4in. rifled barrels (some thin staining) and signed in script on the top-flat 'FNX PAR GASTINNE RENETTE ARQ. DE L'EMPEREUR A PARIS', dove-tailed bead fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights, relief scroll engraved breech-blocks with spiral moulded fenced snails and numbered '1' and '2' respectively for the pair, border engraved hump-backed and dip-tailed locks surrounding ivy-leaf relief engraving against a darkened stippled ground, engraved hammers, fully relief-carved walnut half-stocks, iron furniture including lozenged butt-caps (spires cut short), engraved and spurred trigger-guard bows, plain triggers, no provision for ramrods, together with their manufacturer's brass strung mahogany case, compartmented and lined in the Continental fashion using plum velvet, the inside of lid marked in gilded letters 'GASTINNE RENETTE ARQ'R ORDINAIRE DE S.M. L'EMPEREUR' and containing a near full complement of accessories (nipple pot, flask top and lock escutcheon absent)
