28in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, broad matt rib with three folding leaf sights for 100, 150 and 200 yards, gold bead fore-sight, tubes engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151 NEW BOND STE. LONDON. PATENT SMOOTH BORE BREECH LOADING RIFLE.', Charles Lancaster patent slide-and-tilt action with patent rotary-underlever, recessed bosses, striker discs, non-rebounding back-action locks, bolted hammers with spurs of hare's-ear form, triggerguard with scrolled tang forming skeletal pistolgrip, border and bold acanthus scroll engraving, retaining much renewed colour-hardening, 14 3/8in. figured stock with cheekpiece and engraved steel buttplate, weight 8lb. 14oz., in its brass-cornered oak case with oak partitions, serial numbered bullet mould, the rear of the case with hand written charge instructions 'Breech loading Rifle No. 4126 - cloth wadding and grease ball 2 5/8 drams or 73 grains powder No.6 Curtis Harvey' and a second hand written note 'Composition used for loading shell bullets = 2 parts chloride potass and 1 part sublimed sulphur then stop hole in bullet with pure beeswax'
