converted from pinfire, 28 1/4in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels, rib engraved 'J. LANG. COCKSPUR STREET. LONDON', the breech ends with starburst details and pinfire apertures plugged, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and imp. cyl. choke, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, narrow carved fences of pinfire form, action with T.P. Saville patent spring-operated transversely-sliding locking bolt mechanism, patent no. 1559 of 22nd June 1864, non-rebounding back action locks, beaded border and bold acanthus scroll engraving, the underside marked 'Lang's Patent No. 43', some wear overall, 14 5/8in. well-figured stock including steel buttplate, repairs to fore-end, weight 6lb. 4oz.

Other Notes: It is posited that the Saville action was used exclusively by Joseph Lang and that he may even have bought the patent, a modified version being patented under Lang's name in 1867.
