A CASED .31 PERCUSSION POCKET-REVOLVER, MODEL 'SECOND MODEL THIRD TYPE', serial no. 14406,
circa 1860, with 5 1/8in. octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'E. WHITNEY, N. HAVEN', bead fore-sight, sighting groove to the top-strap, plain cylinder with no trace of etched scene, solid frame (hairline crack through cylinder arbor aperture on left), brass trigger guard, iron grip-straps and smooth flared walnut grips, the underside of barrel fitted with an articulated loading lever, traces of finish only in sheltered areas, together with a period walnut case (lid relined), compartmented and lined in green baize and complete with period but unassociated powder-flask, 'L' shaped turnscrew and possibly correct double cavity brass mould, the lid with external brass escutcheon engraved 'LT JAMES ALDUS, CoB 3RD BATTALION N.Y. ARTILLERY'
