A 25-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING-RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1760 with later conversion from flint to percussion, with 30 1/2in. octagonal swamped barrel, the top-flat at breech inlet with yellow metal scrolls together with the signature 'JOS. AND. KUCHENREITER (sic) AN REGENSBURG' together with a deeply struck silver inlaid poincon of an armed soldier on horseback, similar inlet yellow metal scrolls at muzzle surrounding the white metal fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with foliate carved tail, the plain top-tang engraved for number one of a pair, curved and bevel-edged lock-plate with radiused pointed tail signed forward of the hammer 'I. A. KUCHENREUTER' (traces of colour), walnut full-stock carved around the furniture and with scroll carving around the top-tang and at the intersection of the wrist and comb, moulded horn and walnut lid to the patch-box, inventory number '145' stamped in side of butt near toe, flat underside to the butt (some old filled repairs), polished brass furniture, single set trigger and stirrup and button sling mounts
