A SCARCE 14-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'RIVIERE'S PATENT', serial no. 89,
circa 1830, with damascus 30in. barrels, the top-rib signed in script 'RIVIERE PATENT GUN MAKER LONDON', bead fore-sight, engraved lions mask at rib-end, platinum lines and engraved vents at breech, internal central hammer boxlock action, the top-cover engraved with a figure of a medieval knight and an off-set oval marked 'RIVIERE PATENT 89', the broad top-tang engraved with acanthus foliage inhabited by dogs and birds, walnut straight hand half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture including engraved heel-plate and square-fronted trigger-guard, the bow engraved with game-birds and with a complex finial involving engraved figures and masks, white metal escutcheons to the underside of butt and the barrel key slots, engraved iron ramrod throat and brass-mounted ebony ramrod
