almost certainly from the workshops of John Probin, Birmingham, with detachable 4 1/2in. four-barrel cluster attaching to a two-stage octagonal to sixteen-sided breech, London and Tower private proofs, scroll engraving surrounding a banner on the top-flat signed 'LONDON', moulded band at breech, iron top-tang (cracked and repaired), flat bevel-edged lock with traces of signature below pan, stepped pointed tail, sliding safe behind the replacement cock, bridled frizzen (spring broken), walnut half-stock with paktong furniture including engraved long-spurred butt-cap, carved apron around the top-tang with dot bordered oval escutcheon to wrist, double roll-edged trigger-guard bow with acorn finial and no provision for ramrod
