36in. Greener trade mark nitro reproved fine damascus barrels, rib engraved 'W.W. GREENER. 68 HAYMARKET. LONDON. WINNER AT THE LONDON GUN TRIALS 1875, 1877, 1878 & 1879', (faint) and with 'PATENT TREBLE WEDGE FAST' in an oval at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and full choke, treble-grip action, manual side safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, border and acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 13 7/8in. semi-pistolgrip stock including horn buttplate, slender fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release catch and horn finial, weight 6lb. 12oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly provided us with the following information:
W W Greener gun no. 33213 was started on 11th October 1890 and finished on 4th December of the same year. It is a 12 bore with 36 inch Damascus barrels, a Facile Princeps non-ejector shotgun, medium grade which cost 25 guineas when sold originally to a Mr Savage, stock dimensions when made were 2-3/4 by 1-3/4 by 14-1/4 inches, half pistol hand, engraved - Stokes.
