dated for 1859 with reissue marks for 1867, brushed bright 39in. round iron barrel, block fore-sight, fixed standing notch rear-sight, military proofs, the number '98' and ordnance stamps at breech, plain lock signed 'ENFIELD' together with the date and a broad arrow over 'I' for Indian issue, 'V.R. and crown device at tail, walnut three-quarter stock with brass furniture and 'ENFIELD' roundel and '9' over '198' stamped to the right hand side of butt, chained nipple-protector, three iron barrel-bands, ordnance marked jag-ended ramrod and period leather sling
