circa 1891, 26in. sleeved nitro barrels (in 1970), the rib engraved 'F. BEESLEY (FROM PURDEYS). 85. EDGWARE ROAD. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, action incorporating Beesley patent no. 8657 of 1886, treble-grip action with arcaded fences, slender toplever, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, bouquet and scroll engraving (some distortion to the triggerplate tang), 14 1/4in. figured stock including 1in. wooden extension, weight 5lb. 14oz., in its makers brass-cornered oak and leather case with red baize-lined interior fitted for 28in. barrels, lid interior with 'F. Beesley, Late on the Staff of James Purdey & Sons' trade label inked with the gun serial number and charge information
