A GOOD 25-BORE PERCUSSION CONVERTED FROM FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOL BY MORTIMER, CIRCA 1800/35, no visible serial number,
with 10in. octagonal sighted barrel, the top flat engraved 'MORTIMER LONDON GUN-MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY', foliate scroll engraved fixed breech, borderline engraved and bevelled lock with stepped tail engraved with martial trophies and fitted with a bolt safety, the centre with some foliate engraving carried out at time of conversion when original makers name would have been removed, the percussion hammer is also foliate scroll engraved, full walnut stock with chequered curving grip the pommel carved in a shell motif, iron trigger-guard, the bow engraved with a trophy of arms, set trigger, a quality conversion with the fitting of a new breech with integral nipple bolster and not the usual and cheaper drum and nipple system
Provenance: The original maker was undoubtedly Harvey Walklate Mortimer one of the periods finest makers and appointed gunmaker to King George III.
