A RARE PRISON OFFICER'S SWORD ETCHED FOR PARKHURST PRISON,
circa 1850, with slightly curved 22in. steel blade fullered on each side, single-edged for 3/4 of its length with the lower quarter ending in a spear point, etched 'PARKHURST PRISON' to one side with scroll-work and 'PARKER / FIELD & SON / 33 / Holborn / London' over, original leather washer, steel hilt, knuckle and cross-guard with quillion stamped with Broad Arrow and '20', fish-skin grip bound with brass wire; together with its black leather scabbard with steel fittings and black leather frog, a few rust spots on the steel-work, fish-skin grip worn exposing wood beneath, chape loose
