A PAIR OF 12-BORE SIDELEVER SIDELOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 17025 / 6,
for 1930, 28in. nitro chopperlump barrels, the ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, the tubes engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT & SONS. 7, BURY STREET. ST. JAMES'S. LONDON.' (rubbed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, sidelever actions with removable striker discs, carved fluted fences and gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, best fine acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening and renewed finish, 15 3/8in. well-figured stocks including 1 1/2in. wooden extensions, very minor crack at hand No.2, weight 6lb. 9oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 8oz. (No.2), in their lightweight leather motor case

Provenance: The vendor has kindly confirmed that the guns were originally commissioned directly from Grant & Lang by his grandfather, Sir John Hanbury-Williams and have been passed down through the family in subsequent years.

Sir John Coldbrook Hanbury-Williams CVO (28th May 1892 - 10th August 1965) was a prominent British Industrialist, Director of the Bank of England and Chairman of Courtaulds. He served as a Gentleman Usher to King George V from 1931, to King Edward VIII in 1936 and then to King George VI between 1937 and 1946 and then as Extra Gentleman Usher until 1952, continuing in this role to serve Queen Elizabeth II until 1965. He also served twice as High Sheriff of the County of London, in 1943 and 1958
