A .275 RIGBY (7x57mm) BOLT-MAGAZINE SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 3013,
for 1907, 22 3/4in. unsighted replacement nitro barrel, engraved in gothic script 'JOHN RIGBY & CO. 13 PALL MALL. LONDON. SW1.' and 'MADE IN ENGLAND', Mauser action with serial no. 7939, receiver (with thumb cutout) drilled for sight mount bases (bases missing), sidewall engraved 'WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER-OBERNDORF A/N.', manual flag safety, detachable floorplate with military style release, the triggerguard engraved with the serial number, figured semi-pistolgrip stock with rubber recoil pad, 14 1/4in. pull, leather sling, weight 6lb. 10oz., in its makers full-length canvas and leather guncase with accessories, the exterior lid marked 'J.L.W.'

Provenance: the vendor has kindly provided us with the following information:

"(The initials) J.L.W. (are for) Major John Lycett Wills, born 29th May 1910, the son of Arnold Stancomb Wills and Hilda Caroline Lyon. He was initially in the Grenadier Guards then 1st Life Guards, he served in the Middle East in WWII; specifically Iraq, Syria and Persia.

Major Wills held the office of High Sheriff of Berkshire in 1958 and was appointed High Steward of Wokingham in March 1973. He was chairman of the executive committee of the Dockland Settlement. He was High Steward until 1992."
