* W.R. PAPE 12-BORE 1866 PATENT ROTATING SINGLE-BOLT SNAP-ACTION THUMBLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 4138, for 1886, 29in. black powder only damascus barrels (some pits), the rib engraved 'W.R. PAPE, NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE. WINNER OF THE LONDON GUN TRIALS IN 1858, 1859, 1866 & 1875', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, action incorporating Pape patent thumblever, patent no. 1501 of 29th May 1866, carved percussion fences, bar-action sidelocks with rebounding hammers (both hammers with repairs), best ropework border and bolt acanthus scroll engraving on a matted background, the underside engraved 'W.R. PAPE'S PATENT.', the triggerguard with the Pape trademark, bright and reblued finish overall, 13 3/4in. figured stock with engraved steel heel and toe plates, ornately chequered fore-end with Deeley & Edge release catch, weight 6lb. 9oz.
