A .50 CAPPING BREECH-LOADING SMITHS PATENT CARBINE SIGNED MASSACHUSETTS ARMS CO., serial no. 11024, circa 1863, with 21 1/2in. octagonal to round barrel fitted with a block and blade front-sight and a small carbine pattern tangent rearsight, the action fitted with a sling bar and ring and stamped "ADDRESS POULTNEY & TRIMBLE BALTIMORE U.S.A." and "MANUFACTURED BY MASS ARMS CO CHICOPEE FALLS U.S.A.", two piece iron mounted walnut stock and splinter fore-end with one solid barrel band secured by a screw.
