A FINE CASED COMPOSED PAIR OF .442 WEBLEY RIC MKI DELUXE REVOLVERS RETAILED BY VENABLES, OXFORD, serial numbered 7544 and 7560,
circa 1870, with ovate 4 1/2in. barrels, each with the top-strap sighting groove signed either side 'J. VENABLES & SON' and 'ST. ALDATES, OXFORD', engraved bands to the muzzles, small crescent fore-sights, border and scroll engraved solid frames marked 'WEBLEYS PATENT', plain front locking cylinders with engraved bands, polished hammers and triggers, chequered walnut one-piece grips with engraved butt-caps and centrally mounted lanyard rings, both pistols retaining much of their original blued finish and together with their retailer's oak double storage case, compartmented and lined in blue baize, parchment trade label to inside of lid, the case also containing a turn-screw and oil-bottle, with hook and lock closure and a coin-edged vacant circular escutcheon to outside of lid (lock escutcheon absent)
