circa 1870, with round, slightly tapering heavy 36in. barrel, the short sighting rib at breech signed 'METFORD PATENT 120', the top of barrel 'GEORGE GIBBS, 29 CORN STREET, BRISTOL', some bruising to barrel exterior, studded for a ball-starter and with large block base for an adjustable fore-sight (both absent), no provision for rear-sight, the nocksform initialled 'E.W', squared breech (further bruising), plain top-tang fitted with a dove-tailed mount for a vernier sight (absent), plain lock signed on the bar 'THE BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. LIMITED', chequered walnut pistol grip half-stock with chequered iron heel-plate, guarded chequered trigger and rounded horn pistol grip cap and fore-end tip, no provision for ramrod
