JAGUAR MOTOR CARS
A 1963 MK.II SALOON, REGISTRATION NO. 146 FJJ,
presented in British Racing Green with tan leather interior and walnut dashboard and door-cappings, current odometer reading of 97,500, 3.4 litre straight six engine (converted for use with unleaded fuel), engine no. KH65138, automatic gearbox and power steering by Marles Variomatic, rebuilt chromed wire wheels, disc brakes all-round, MoT test certificate valid until September 2013, valid V5 documentation.
Provenance: The Mk.II Jaguar saloon was introduced by the Coventry concern in late 1959, and continued in production in various guises until it was replaced by the XJ6 in 1969. Its predecessor, the Jaguar 240 (or Mk.I as it came to be known), was built around the marque's excellent XK D.O.H.C. straight six unit, although it proved to be rather asthmatic in 2.4 litre form. However, once taken out to 3.4 litre (later 3.8) it showed itself to be a powerful and reasonably light engine. The 340 Saloon evolved into the Mk.II and was thoroughly worthy of Sir William Lyon's maxim of "grace, pace and space".
One of the most recognisable Jaguars, the Mk.II boasted an impressive performance with a top speed of 120mph and a 0-60 mph time of 11.9 seconds; remarkable figures for a luxurious mid-sized saloon that could seat five adults in comfort. It was popular with many areas of the domestic market, and not just with afficionados of the Coventry marque; its capabilities brought it into demand with the criminal under-world as a get-away car, and many police authorities used it as a pursuit car to catch them!
This particular example was subject to a two year restoration completed in 2006 (the engine was converted for use with unleaded fuel at that time) and is described by the vendor as being a "delight" to drive.
Other Notes: Following a successful sale, the car may be taken from our London salerooms, or collected at a later date from the vendor by prior arrangement.
