31in. black powder only fine damascus barrels with broad raised matt rib, tubes engraved 'HENRY ATKIN (FROM PURDEY'S) 18 OXENDEN STREET. HAYMARKET. LONDON. W.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. full and 3/4 choke, treble-grip action with Purdey 1863 patent double bolt and oblique dolls-head third bite, short top tang, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks, the action, lockplates and furniture profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork, the lockplates signed 'HENRY ATKIN' , the triggerguard tang with with serial number engraved in high relief on a matted background and in an elaborate cartouche, retaining much original colour-hardening and traces of finish, 14 1/4in. highly-figured stock including horn buttplate, triggerguard with minor denting, weight 7lb. 2oz.
