ONE WEEK'S FISHING RIGHTS IN PERPETUITY FOR ONE ROD 'UPPER SCONE' ON THE RIVER TAY (WEEK THREE OF THE SEASON),
This famous and spectacular lower Tay beat, about six miles north of Perth, consisting of 23 named pools over two miles is divided into upper and lower beats, Pitlochrie being the upstream beat, located at Stanley and Benchil the downstream beat 2 miles below. The beats are fished on an alternate day basis by no more than six rods per beat. Famous for its big fish and regarded as amongst the best of the spring beats on the river, there are two full time experienced and knowledgeable gillies, boats, excellent facilities and easy access. This improving beat is under fished at present but being on the lower river nearly all of the Tay fish have to come into these beats. The 10 year beat average is 184 salmon and grilse but could be improved if fished regularly, especially in the spring. The present owner fished Feb 5th and 6th this year and landed 4 salmon, one being a fresh fish of 14lbs straight from the sea the other 3 were well mended kelts of 11lbs, 10lbs and 8lbs. Another fresh fish was landed at the end of the week and one was caught on the Saturday of week 2.
