29in. nitro reproved barrels with side-ribs, no top-rib, short sight flat gold-inlaid '1', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 choke in both, sling swivel removed, wall-thicknesses below recommended minimum, Boss 1909 patent action incorporating J. Robertson (Boss & Co.) patents 3307 (hinged stud piece drop down action) and 3308 (ejector) of 10th February 1909, Boss improved patent single-trigger, patent no. 11278 of 30th April 1905, hold-open toplever, carved fences, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguard, automatic safety, best border engraving, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening and with renewed finish, 14 3/4in. well-figured replacement stock, weight 6lb. 8oz., in a brass-cornered leather case with some accessories

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was made as No.1 of a set of 3, for Duc de Guiche of Paris on the 17th February, 1913.

Further research would indicate that Duc de Guiche to be Armand de Gramont (1879-1962), gentleman, aristocrat, and friend of Marcel Proust. He was the son of Antoine XI Alfred Agenor de Gramont and Marguerite de Rothschild.
