Product Details

A RARE 10-BORE SNAPHAUNCE MUSKET WITH BONE INLAY, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
central European circa 1590 and almost certainly converted from matchlock or wheel-lock, with 47 1/2in. two-stage iron barrel with multiple moulded bands at the intersection, bulbous muzzle with bead fore-sight, armourer's stamp at breech, incomplete rusted snaphaunce lock (missing hammer and possible other internal parts) fitted over an inlet wooden filler, walnut semi fish-tailed lozenge-shaped full-stock profusely covered with inlet engraved bone panels, many featuring figures in tudor dress, the voids between with inlet bone borderlines and floral scrolls (losses, damage), the heel-plate featuring the mask of a green man over a heart bearing the initials 'I.L.' over 'M', long iron trigger-guard bow with raised finger-tang, provision for under-barrel ramrod (missing), iron surfaces with corrosion, small losses to sharp edges of wood

Other Notes: The armourers mark appears to be an inverted spur or horse-shoe surmounted with a crown and enveloping the letter 'I'. It is possibly that of one of the Missaglias armourers of Northern Italy
