A RARE 12-BORE LATE VARIANT BAKER PATENT DOUBLE-TRIGGER OVER AND UNDER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 4184,
30in. nitro barrels with no top rib or wooden side fillets, the top barrel engraved 'ROBERT LISLE. 25. DERWENT STREET. DERBY.', and with fine acanthus scroll and floral detailing at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. (over barrel) and full (under barrels) choke, front trigger firing over barrel, William Baker 1912 patent action incorporating patents 4922 of Feb. 27th 1912 (arrangement by which the firing pins pass through the spindle) and 9768 of April 25th 1912 (relating to the extended bars at the breech end of the barrels) and incorporating provisional patent 34926 of 1930, hold-open toplever with crossbolt, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, the action bar signed 'ROBERT LISLE', the action, lockplates and furniture profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork, the lockplates with fine celtic strapwork, the fore-end with game scene vignettes of pheasant and partridge, the underside with further vignettes of game birds, the triggerguard with two setters on the outer, the inner with the Lisle Tiger trade mark, bright and blued finish overall, 15in. well-figured stock with ornate chequering borders and including 1in. extension, the fore-end chequered en suite and with horn finial and recessed Anson push rod release, weight 6lb. 12oz.

Provenance: The vendor kindly informs us the gun was formerly the property of the renowned gun author and historian Geoffrey Boothroyd.
