almost certainly produced in Manton's own workshops circa 1840, with 1 5/8in. octagonal barrel (traces of blued finish), the top-flat signed 'JNO. MANTON & SONS, London proofs, octagonal fronted squared boxlock action with radiused corners and full border and scroll engraving, central hammer with sliding safe to the top-tang, concealed automatic trigger, finely chequered walnut bag-shaped butt, silver vacant escutcheon and silver butt-cap
