A FINE CASED PAIR OF .600 FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED PISTOLS, serial no's. 3017,
for 1803, with browned 9in. barrels, the breech-blocks inlet with gold rectangular poincons marked in raised letters 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON' and with crowns, the breech blocks also with gold lines and touch-holes, blued standing notch rear-sights, fully engraved top-tang with sunken sighting grooves, flat, curved, border engraved bevel-edged locks with stepped tails and signed below the rainproof pans 'JOSEPH MANTON, LONDON', engraved swan-necked cocks with rear-mounted sliding safes, border engraved roller-frizzens marked 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT' and numbered variously at the tips '505', '506', '507' & '508', walnut half-stocks with coarse flat-chequered bag-shaped butts, each with a border engraved iron socket to rear for a detachable shoulder-stock (absent), oval silver escutcheons engraved with a coronet, engraved domed iron pommel-caps, engraved martial trophies to the trigger guard bows and horn-tipped mahogany ramrods, both pistols with expert repairs and some renovations and together with their original walnut case lined and compartmented in green baize, parchment Manton label inside lid and containing a period red Morocco leather covered three-way flask, a scissors ball-mould, wood loading rod and dismountable loading mallet
