late Edo period and martially produced, with octagonal 40in. iron barrel, moulded fore-sight, ramped block rear-sight, applied silver 'mon' to top of breech-end near touch-hole, brass barrel retaining band at breech with engraved brass mount behind, swinging brass pan-cover, plain elongated brass lockplate with large external brass mainspring, hand-cocked brass serpentine match-holder, wooden full-stock of classic form with isolated brass decoration and brass-lined match apertures (losses to upper edge of fore-end wood), guarded ball trigger, two shaped brass muzzle-bands to the fore-end and provision for under-barrel ramrod (absent)
