circa 1865, with reblued octagonal 24in. barrel, matted top-flat signed in a rectangular panel 'JOHN RIGBY & CO, DUBLIN' dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with provision for folding leaf (now absent), borderline and scroll engraved central hammer action with screw-breech, the action signed 'J. RIGBY & CO' to the left side, figured walnut straight hand stock chequered to the wrist, iron heel-plate and chequered walnut splinter fore-end with cross-key fixing and moulded horn schnabel tip
Provenance: The serial number of this rifle does not tally with Rigby's record books and may well have been a contract piece produced by another and retailed by Rigby
