circa 1855, with rebrowned laminated 28 1/2in. barrels, bead fore-sight, platinum plugs, Birmingham proofs, moulded fences and scroll engraved top-tang, white metal breech-plates, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'J.C. SMITH', engraved and dipped tails, engraved hammers, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture, white metal rectangular escutcheon to back of wrist and oval escutcheons to the barrel key, replacement ramrod, in a good period brass-cornered walnut case with Westley Richards trade-label inside lid and compartmented and lined in the original green baize (small later modifications to barrel compartment), complete with a mahogany two-piece cleaning-rod, a good nickel and leather covered Hawksley powder flask and leather shot flask with brass nozzle and embossed body
