mid 1870's, with blued octagonal 3 7/8in. barrel apparently shortened by the maker, the top-flat re-signed 'ADAM'S PATENT SMALL ARMS Co. 391 STRAND.', a ghost of the original signature visible, dove-tailed block and blade fore-sight, sighting notch to rear of top-strap, multiple piece frame signed 'ADAMS PATENT' and with Adams's trademark, top-hinged load-gate, plunge ejector and chequered walnut grip with eyelet for lanyard ring at heel, strong amount of apparently original blued finish remaining and complete with an oak storage case blocked for this barrel length, lined and compartmented in green baize, original Adam's instruction label for this model pasted inside lid and containing an oil bottle, cleaning rod, lid only from a patch tin and a number of spent cases
