Belgian circa 1870, with round tapering blued 10 3/4in. barrel sliding forward to load, moulded fore-sight block with dove-tailed blade and side-protectors, dove-tailed tangent rear-sight adjustable along a raised and scaled dove-tail, the right side of barrel near breech signed in gilt 'J.H. JAMAR-SMITS FAB'T D'ARMES A LIEGE', internal false breech with recess for the ball, borderline and scroll engraved solid table for the barrel, the standing breech with moulded and fenced nipple bolster, borderline and scroll engraved back-action lock with en-suite hammer, further adjustable standing notch rear-sight to the engraved top-tang, chequered walnut pistol-grip butt with moulded horn butt-cap with central lanyard ring, spurred iron trigger guard and concealed under-lever of Bastin patent type, the whole retaining the majority of its original finish and colour and appearing little used
Provenance: These unusual pistols were used in target galleries to fire a wax ball with the power of the percussion cap only at either targets or occasionally a shielded opponent
