A SUBSTANTIAL 8-BORE FLINTLOCK IRON-BARRELLED BLUNDERBUSS OF SHIP'S MUSKETOON SIZE, SIGNED LONDON, no visible serial number,
probably Colonial produced circa 1820, with heavy, strongly flaring 26in. Birmingham proved barrel, solid squared top-tang, plain lock of musket form signed 'LONDON' below the pan and stamped with a small 'SM' below a crown device on the tail, heavy walnut full-stock with flat top to the comb, sheet iron flat-faced heel-plate, brass trigger guard, moulded bolstered aperture in the fore-end for a swivel-mount and iron ramrod, stock with repaired crack above lock and other minor hairlines, darkly stained and dirty throughout
