type II and dated 1862, with round 39in. brushed bright barrel, block fore-sight acting as a bayonet lug, rear-sight with one standing notch and two folding leaves, distinctive 'hump-back' lock stamped 'C.S.' over 'RICHMOND V.A.', the tail bearing the date, walnut three-quarter stock with iron furniture, three barrel-bands, nose-cap and iron ramrod
Other Notes: The distinctive lock shape is due to the machinery used in its manufacture being captured from the Harpers Ferry Arsenal where it was originally intended to produce the 1855 Rifled Musket with Maynard's tape primer attachment
