A FINE 16-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 425,
circa 1840, with triple staged browned twist-iron 28in. barrel, moulded and carved bands at the intersection, the top-flat at breech signed 'CHARLES LANCASTER, 151 NEW BOND ST., LONDON', squared patent breech with crest engraved to the top, carved snail and platinum vent, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'C. LANCASTER, LONDON', walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, the butt drilled through near toe, iron furniture including heel-plate with scroll engraved top-spur, blued and engraved trigger-guard bow, the tang fitted with later (removable) wood pistol-grip, pineapple finial and white-metal mounted mahogany ramrod, the whole retaining much original finish and traces of colour

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed between 1834 and 1850 as a 'Brilliant' grade, for a W.G. Gore Esq.
