AN EXCEPTIONAL 80-BORE PERCUSSION MATCH-RIFLE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY, no visible serial number,
German, circa 1850 and made for schutzenfest events, with relief etched damascus octagonal 32in. barrel, the muzzle with twin gold bands and recessed for a ball-starter (missing), fine bead fore-sight on a dove-tail with curved side protectors, dove-tailed elevating leaf rear-sight with locking nut, the top-flat behind the rear-sight signed in gold 'PH. KIRCHNER IN HOMBURG V.d.h.', fine gold scroll inlay to top-flat at breech-end, the breech-block featuring a relief carving of a hunting dog within an oval panel framed in gold scrolls, the left hand side-flat and the top-tang engraved with ivy leaves detailed in gold scrollwork, the top-tang also featuring a relief carving of does and a stag in a woodland setting and mounted with a micro adjustable peep-sight with large eye-pan, carved twin-fenced colour-hardened snail, the plug inlet with a gold flower motif, ivy leaf and gold inlet scroll engraved hump-back lock, the forward section relief carved with a hound felling a stag, the tail with a relief carving of a wild cat, highly figured french polished walnut half-stock (some scratches) with complex bordered chequered panel at wrist and carved chequered thumb-rest, exaggerated cheek-piece, white-metal heavy hooked butt-plate with engraved sides and a relief engraving of deer and a gamebird to the top-spur, quick release white-metal finger-grooved trigger-guard bow relief carved with a stag and guarding double set triggers, engraved and turned white metal ramrod throat and pipes (one pipe loose but present) and horn tipped mahogany ramrod
