A CASED 28-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-RIFLE, serial no. 2027,
circa 1860, with rebrowned damascus 26in. side-by-side barrels, raised flat top-rib matted for the last 13 1/2in. and signed 'JOSEPH LANG' in gilt script and '22 COCKSPUR STREET, LONDON', detachable bead fore-sight, rear-sight with three flush-folding leaves, each with gold centreline, border and scroll engraving at breech, narrow standing breech with shallow carved percussion fences, borderline and scroll engraved elongated top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved back-action locks with sliding safes behind the dolphin headed engraved hammers, each with the eyes picked out in gold, the locks signed 'JOSEPH LANG' in crescent panels, figured walnut butt-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, engraved iron furniture including finely chequered pistol-grip spur to the lower tang, single bite forward-facing swing-lever opening, fully chequered walnut splinter fore-end with cross-key fixing and complete with a period walnut storage case refitted for this rifle and lined in burgundy baize with replacement trade label to inside of lid and containing a take-down cleaning rod and square nickel oil-bottle, the gun fully renovated and refinished to a high standard throughout
