TOWER ARMOURIES, LONDON
A .730 PERCUSSION SHORT-MUSKET, MODEL 'PATTERN 1841 VOLUNTEER ARTILLERY CARBINE', no visible serial number,
dated for 1858, with 29 1/4in. smoothbore barrel, block fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, solid top-tang with rounded tip, borderline engraved bar-action lock dated and signed 'TOWER' on the bar, crown device at tail, walnut full-stock with brass furniture, the nose-cap with provision for Lovell's catch (absent) and iron under-barrel ramrod with special screw-tip
Provenance: There is very little apparent difference between the Pattern 1841 Artillery Carbine and the Sapper's & Miner's Carbine. However, the Artillery version does not accept the bayonet intended for the Sapper's & Miners; Volunteer specimens also appear to be particularly scarce
