A .577 SNIDER MK III VOLUNTEER TWO BAND BREECH-LOADING RIFLE, CIRCA 1875, no visible serial number,
with 30 1/2in. Birmingham proofed barrel rifled with five grooves, blade on block front-sight and ladder rear-sight graduated to 1,100 yards, fitted with the improved Mk III positive bolt locked action, hook breech (very rarely encountered on Snider military style rifles), plain unmarked lock with feathered border decoration, iron mounted figured walnut stock with chequered wrist and fore-end, the wrist with inset vacant silver escutcheon
