first model circa 1858, with 4in. octagonal barrel signed on the top-flat 'MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS MANUF'G. CO. NEW YORK', bead fore-sight, rare plain and unengraved five-shot cylinder with five locking notches, unengraved open iron frame with detachable side-plate, iron trigger guard, hinged under-barrel rammer and flared walnut grips (retaining screw absent from wedge)
Provenance: The 9th edition of Flayderman's publication 'Fladerman's Guide to Antique American Firearms' states that only three examples of this variation of plain unengraved frames and cylinders with five notches have come to light (including one presentation example), all with serial numbers below 500
