A RARE .450 GALAND & SOMMERVILLE PATENT AUTO-EXTRACTING REVOLVER RETAILED BY H. HOLLAND, LONDON, no visible serial number,
circa 1875, with octagonal 5in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'H. HOLLAND, 98 NEW BOND ST, LONDON', the left side of barrel throat signed 'GALAND & SOMMERVILLE'S PATENT' in an oval, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight on the recoil shield, border engraved open frame, plain stepped cylinder with borderline to leading edge, chequered walnut grip, border engraved shallow domed butt-cap, the opening mechanism located beneath the barrel with the borderline engraved hinged lever forming the trigger-guard, the whole retaining much of a period nickel re-plating, possibly by Holland at point of retail, Birmingham proofs
