circa 1922, 28 1/4in. sleeved nitro barrels (in 1987), rib engraved 'W.R. PAPE. NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE. WINNER OF THE LONDON GUN TRIALS IN 1858. 1859. 1866 & 1875.', 2 1/2in chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, treble-grip action, the fences engraved with foliate and hop motifs on a matt background, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/2in. figured stock including 1/4in. extension, weight 6lb. 9oz., in its makers brass-cornered leather case
