circa 1825, with octagonal laminated multi-groove rifled 29 1/8in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'ROBERT WHEELER & SON, MAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY', dove-tailed white metal fore-sight, shallow standing notch rear-sight with four additional folding leaves, each with gold line, border engraved breech-block with bush engraving to top and platinum vented plug, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang (traces of colour), borderline and scroll engraved lock signed on the bar 'WHEELER & SON', an engraving of a seated stag to tail (traces of colour), walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (rubbed smooth, old inlet repair probably from new), iron furniture including oblong patch-box engraved with a stag, trigger guard with raised spur to tang, single set trigger, turned ramrod throat, two plain pipes and bun-ended mahogany ramrod, fitted with a later leather sling
