A 12-BORE SIDELEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 586,
circa 1867 and likely conversion from muzzle loading, 28 3/4in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'J. FAIRMAN. 23 JERMYN STREET ST. JAMES'S LONDON.', chamberless, bored true cyl. in both, wall thicknesses at 16 and 18, carved percussion fences, non-rebounding sidelocks, bold acanthus scroll engraving, the triggerguard with two hounds, the tang with the serial number and '1', retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening, 14 3/4in. well-figured stock, steel buttplate with top tang, fore-end with crosspin release and horn finial, weight 6lb. 10oz.


Other Notes: James Fairman was a gunmaker and manufacturer of wire cartridges, wadding and percussion caps, formerly with William Eley. He is listed at 68 Jermyn Street from 1843 to 1852 and then at 23 Jermyn Street from 1853 to 1868
