circa 1867, 30in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151 NEW BOND ST. LONDON. PATENT BREECH LOADER', some internal pitting, Charles Lancaster patent slide-and-tilt action with rotary-underlever, non-rebounding back-action locks with high-spurred hammers of hare's-ear form, the breasts of the hammers hitting the strikers, best bold acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplates with 'C. LANCASTER LONDON PATENT' in scrolling banners, the action bar with 'CHARLES LANCASTER'S PATENT', retaining traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/8in. figured pistolgrip stock with shaped two-piece grip and steel pistolgrip-cap, fore-end with some bruising and an insert repair at knuckle, crosspin release and horn finial, weight 7lb. 14oz.
